The Indian blouse called "choli" is the traditional attire and is usually worn with the Indian sari, lehenga, gypsy skirts etc. It is essentially a low cut midriff baring blouse. It could either be sleeveless, half sleeves or feature full sleeves. The choli is cut to fit tightly to the body, however many new designs have been introduced to team up this garment with different attires. The elaborately woven borders of the sari material usually match or are identical to the bottom edges of the choli sleeves. However, cholis need not match the sari. There is a growing trend towards stretchy, comfortable cholis made from knit materials. The modern cholis may also feature padding and reinforcements so that a bra is not needed and backless or off-the-shoulder cholis can be worn with ease. Some western women also don this Indian blouse as a part of their belly dance costume.

Although many retail outlets sell ready-to-wear cholis or blouses, the custom made or made to order cholis guarantee a perfect fit and can made to the desired specifications. A brief explanation of taking measurements is explained below:
1. Shoulder to neck measurement.
2. Armpit, make medium tight. (Tightly measure the armpit and then at least 2 cm to that).
3. Length of sleeve on upper arm
4. Length of sleeve on lower arm
5. Circumference of arm where the sleeve will end.
6. Waist measurement.
7. Blouse height- taken from top of shoulder to at least 6 inches or more under chest, as per your preferences.
8. Chest measurement.
9. Back side, depth of neck.
