Traditional Indian fashion is a perfect manifestation of the rich Indian tradition and cultures. Designs, patterns and fabrics further enhance its ethnicity and modernity quotient. Men's fashion sees a rare blend fusion of Indo-western designs wherein the ethnic tones remain the dominant characteristic. One such attire is the ubiquitous Kurta Pyjama, an attire which is much favored by the male gender primarily because of the comfort, convenience and versatility it offers.

The kurta pyjama first originated in Northern India before it gained a fair amount of favoritism in other parts of the country. Today it is considered as the traditional Indian groom's wear. However, it can also be donned for the lighter occasions like ring ceremonies, religious functions and other family together as well.

The kurta is the traditional form of clothing commonly worn by men in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. However there is a sparse sprinkling of it in other parts of the world as well. It is a loose collarless long shirt which is about few inches below the knee or of knee length. It is accompanied by fitted narrow pants called pyjamas. The attire could be either plain or ornately embellished to suit various occasions as well as everyday wear.

Kurta Pyjamas are available in a wide variety of materials ranging from thin silk to cotton fabrics for the summer months to thick or coarse materials like wool or khadi silk for the winter months. The regular kurtas may be fastened with buttons, tasseled ties, cloth balls or loops. Buttons could either made of wood or plastic. Kurtas meant for formal occasions could be moderate to intricately embellished, feature decorative metal buttons. The buttons used could be further studded with stones, jewels or other enameling.

The traditional kurta is designed in a way that the sleeves do not narrow and fall straight to the wrist. It usually has button closures in the front, however some designs feature buttons at the shoulder seam. Although the traditional kurtas do not have any collars, the modern designs do feature stand up or "mandarin" collars. The most common and preferred decoration is embroidery either done in matching or contrasting or vibrant colored threads. Gold thread or zardozi is also used to enhance its appeal.

The summer wear kurtas feature "chikan" embroidery around the hems and front opening. The effect is subtle as well as ornate. The pyjamas are essentially drawstring or elastic trousers worn around the waist along with the kurta. These are again available in a wide variety of materials like cotton, silk, satin etc. The material or fabric of the kurta and pyjama (as a set) is usually the same.

This Kurta Pajama outfit for a man is very popular among Indian men to be worn on all types of occasions. Plain Kurta Pajamas in white and other colors are perfect for wearing at meditation camps, yoga training, spiritual purposes, temples, ashrams, Indian ceremonies - or simply wear it on a relaxing Sunday morning, wear it to feel comfortable and cool in the hot summer weather.

Custom made kurta pyjamas are also available in order to cater to specific requirements and preferences of the client. The pyjama could either be designed as a churidar which is tighter from the knees till the ankles or as regular pyjamas.
