LEHNGA / LEHNGAS

The Lehenga is the traditional women's attire worn commonly in India and Pakistan. The lehenga resembles the gypsy skirt and usually features a voluminous flare. The lehenga is usually accompanied with a choli or bodice which is designed to be usually mid-riff baring.

The typical ethnic versions are best suited for bridal wear and are heavily embellished. The embellishments could include vibrant and intricate embroidery work, mirror work, fancy appliqués and other decorative works. All this enhances the traditional appeal of the lehenga. The most common colors available in bridal lehengas are red or maroon. A fair amount of craftsmanship is involved in the making of these lehengas. Custom made lehengas are also available if one prefers the design and patterns made to certain specifications.

The lehenga is usually tied at the waist either with a drawstring or elastic band to keep it in place. Usually the borders are more ornate; however the designs and patterns could differ to suit various fashion tastes and preferences.

The party wear lehengas are less ornate than the bridal versions; although they impart a perfect traditional appeal as well. These could be moderately embellished and are available in a variety of designs and fabrics. Plain and simple to even printed fabrics lehengas are also available for lighter occasions. Tie and dye prints are also very famous and depict the typical traditional heritage of India. This could further be enhanced with a lot of mirror work and is typical to the state of Rajasthan where it actually finds its genesis.

Many international fashion designers have been inspired by this Indian gypsy skirt and have tried to modernize it to churn out more evolved versions of it. These are again a roaring success on the international fashion circuits. The ubiquitous Indian lehenga is here to stay as it remains an indispensable outfit of the Indian women. Its richness and ethnic appeal are its most dominant characteristics that leaves every woman drooling for more.

We have got a wide collection of traditional and modern Indian Lehngas. Custom lehngas can also be prepared, be it a wedding in the family or some traditional or religious Indian festival.
